Setting Priorities (originally published 30 July 2021)
So after due consideration, I've decided to take a break from Etsy until September 1, 2021. As I've mentioned before, I only have so many spoons in the drawer, each day and some things have arisen that deserve my full attention.
I've made a promise to myself to finally finish an art piece that I started before my SCAD in 2018. I am getting close, but have not been able to give it the time it deserves. On top of that, my home community is mobilizing around an issue that has been crippling it all summer long.
Bell Island relies on a ferry service that is normally comprised of one large and one medium/large vessel. Our largest vessel has been unavailable all summer. The replacement was smaller than our second ferry. Then we lost the medium/large boat too. For weeks now, we've been struggling along with a ferry service that is at less than 50% capacity during the height of summer, when seasonal construction workers and trades are busiest and when we are doing our best to lure tourists to our beautiful island.
As if COVID19 hasn't posed enough challenges, then summer arrived and our ferry services tanked. So this past week, I've gotten involved, posting on FB, Tweeting, being interviewed by local media, and generally trying to help others get their stories online.
Add to all this, we've had a sick kitty and have company soon arriving.
So The Knitted Raven is going on hiatus for a month from the world of Etsy, but will be back in September. Have a safe summer. See you around Labor Day.
