Summer Knitting

Die hard knitters don't abandon their passion when the temperature rises, but they may chose different projects and materials.

That's what happens at my house. I've been busy lately in my garden so I was looking for some smaller projects that could also be portable if needed.  I pulled out two skeins of Noro lace weight yarn that I'd gotten from a friend who was de-stashing last year, and started looking for patterns.

My first choice was the Risoni Bias Scarf by Knit Purl available for free on Ravelry. I used a 4mm needle instead of a 3.75 mm, but otherwise followed the instructions. This is a simple pattern, perfect for days when it really is too warm to think, or when watching a movie or videos. I used the Noro Sekku (cotton, wool, nylon, silk) for this project. The rapid color changes really suited the bias construction.

For my next project, I chose one of my own patterns - The Feather and Fan Cowl - available for free here on my blog. This time I used Noro Kirameki yarn (rayon, nylon, cotton, cashmere). I followed the pattern until cast off. I decided to use a 3-stitch I-cord bind off. The Noro yarn made a lovely, light, slouchy cowl, perfect for adding a pop of color to a summer outfit.

Scarves and cowls are quick projects ideal for orphan balls of specialty yarn lurking in your stash. Choosing a summery fiber blend produces versatile accessories to jazz up your seasonal wardrobe.

Happy knitting!
